Child Hit By Car Near Kalona

  • Photo
KALONA, Iowa -- A child was injured Tuesday when his hat blew off and the boy walked into the path of a moving car.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Michael R. Goodrich, 55, of Kalona, was traveling southbound on Gable Avenue north of Kalona at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday. Goodrich came along a group of children who were walking northbound in the southbound lane.

The state patrol said Goodrich slowed down and moved into the northbound lane to pass the children. As he was passing, one of the children's hat blew off and he ran after it. The boy darted in front of Goodrich's vehicle and was struck.

Police said the 8-year-old was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via Aircare to be treated for an "incapacitating" injury.
