Central Iowa City Plans Lawsuit Over Traffic Cameras
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Windsor Heights plans to sue the Iowa Department of Transportation for denying its request for traffic cameras along its stretch of Interstate 235 in the Des Moines area.
The city wants two sets of speed cameras above the westbound lanes in the 1-mile section. Cameras are up and running in Des Moines' eastbound lanes into downtown.
The Des Moines Register says the City Council voted this week to proceed with the case. The city has until Nov. 5 to file a petition in Polk County District Court.
In rejecting the city's request, the DOT said other options should be considered, including overhead speed displays.
Windsor Heights Police Chief Dennis McDaniel says the city has made a good case and will go to court.
