CLINTON, Iowa (AP) Workers at an eastern Iowa cemetery say they're puzzled by a big increase in tombstone toppling.
Springdale Cemetery groundskeeper Darrell Mueller tells the Clinton Herald that tombstones have been tipped over repeatedly at the Clinton cemetery each month.
As he arrives at the cemetery each morning, he wonders how many toppled tombstones he'll find.
Last week, he found nine tombstones had been tipped over in one 12-hour period.
Mueller says the markers often are chipped, but the biggest problem is the time it takes to set them back into place.
He says tipping over the tombstones can take only a few minutes but requires hours to put back.
Clinton police couldn't be reached to comment.
