CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids School District officials are warning parents to advise their students to be on the lookout for strangers after two incidents occurred Friday morning.

According to the school district, a McKinley Middle School student was walking near Grant Wood Elementary School when the student was approached by an bearded, older white man driving a van. A young woman with brown hair and a purple strand was a passenger in the van.

The district said the couple asked the student where he lived, how old he was and where he went to school. The student ran away. A student at Johnson Elementary reported a similar-looking vehicle following her as she walked to school, the district reported. Both incidents were reported to the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

The district is advising parents to talk to their children about stranger danger and to remind them not to approach a stranger's vehicle.
