CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Witnesses to an overnight shooting outside of a Cedar Rapids bar disarmed the shooter and held him down until police arrived.
James A. Breen, 27, of 125 21st St. NE, has been charged with attempted murder and going armed with intent after the shooting outside of Rumors Bar and Grill, 400 F Ave. NW. He is accused of shooting Cory Forbes, 28, of Cedar Rapids.
Police responded to the bar around 11:30 p.m. Sunday and found Forbes with multiple gunshot wounds. Lt. Joe Clark said Forbes was struck at least twice, in the leg and lower torso area. He had surgery Monday morning at St. Luke's Hospital for "very serious" injuries, police said.
According to police, an argument preceded the shooting. Clark said Breen and Forbes were acquaintances of one another and had mutual friends at the bar.
After the shooting, police said a witness disarmed Breen and held him down until officers arrived. During the interaction, Breen was struck in the face. He was taken to a hospital for the injuries before he was transported to the Linn County Jail.
Information about Forbes' medical condition was not immediately released.
