CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Police caught a Cedar Rapids man in the middle of a break-in Monday night.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said a plainclothes officer was patrolling H Avenue NE when he saw someone remove a screen off a window and enter a residence. Officers, including a K9, surrounded the house and announced their presence.

The suspect, 22-year-old Jonathan D. Powell, gave himself up without incident, police said.

Police said the homeowner did not know Powell or give him permission to enter the residence. Powell was taken to the Linn County Jail where he faces one count of second-degree burglary.
