CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids drivers were ranked the 10th safest among America’s 200 largest cities in an Allstate report released on Thursday.

In this year’s sixth annual “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report” Cedar Rapids slipped from a fourth-safest ranking in 2009. The city ranked No. 1 in 2005.

The report, based on Allstate claim data, ranks cities by auto collision frequency.

According to the 2010 report, the average driver in Cedar Rapids will experience a collision every 12.0 years. Top-ranked Fort Collins, Colorado, drivers have an accident every 14.5 years. Des Moines drivers, ranked 39th, crash every 10.7 years.

For safe driving tips Allstate recommends: minimizing distractions, being aware of road conditions, leaving a safe distance between your vehicle and others, steering clear of road rage and proper vehicle maintenance.
