CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids threw a birthday party for just about everyone Saturday evening.

It's part of the church's Saturday Evening Meal Program. The church serves food and provided personal items to about 100 people in need on a weekly basis.

This week they offered *a more elaborate meal with birthday cake* to commemorate their years of service.

"It's a sad occasion, but it's a happy occasion. It's a sad occasion that there's on going hunger and that we need to do this. But it's a happy occasion because you know our people saw the need and responded in such a great way," said Craig Brown, the associate pastor at First Lutheran Church.

The Saturday meal program is entering its 25th year at the church. Since then they haven't missed a single weekend dinner, and have served over 100,000 meals to the community.
