Cedar Falls Police Remind Drivers to Be Careful on Highway 58

By Katie Stinson

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - A crash-prone road is prompting Cedar Falls Police to remind drivers to be careful. Cedar Falls Police say more than 100 crashes have occurred on Highway 58 between Greenhill and Viking Roads.

Cedar Falls Police Chief Jeff Olson says many times drivers don't realize traffic is backed up at the lights until it's too late. He says it's a big problem now as the roads are busy with holiday shoppers.

"More and more cars are out there, we are noticing traffic backing up even further and we've had several real bad rear-end collisions, you know just recently we had a five car rear-end collision out there," Chief Olson said.

Chief Olson says about 10 percent of all crashes in Cedar Falls happen on that stretch of road.Police are reminding drivers to be especially careful on weekends.
