CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - One person suffered injuries in a house fire Saturday night, according to ire officials in Cedar Falls.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports it happened about 6:15 p.m. at a home in the 400 block of North Ellen Street.

Cedar Falls Police were first to arrive and reported someone was in the basement of the home. But, because of heavy smoke, they couldn't enter the house, they said.

Cedar Falls Fire Rescue was able to rescue the man, and an ambulance took him to an area hospital. Authorities have not released his name or injuries.

Courier staff on the scene said a pet cat did not survive the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
