IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A car hit a woman near a cross walk in downtown Iowa City Thursday morning.

Police, fire and an ambulance were dispatched to the corner of Washington and Clinton streets around 11 a.m. for a report that a Jeep had struck a woman.

It's not clear if the woman, who appeared to be college age, was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Her condition is not immediately available, although she was alert and speaking with bystanders and first responders before being taken away on a stretcher.

The intersection has been the spot of several similar accidents in recent years, and is very busy with walkers, bikers, cars and buses.
