CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A student was struck by a car near Regis Middle School this morning, but appeared to be OK. Police said a car hit the boy around 7:45 a.m. on Prairie Drive near Franklin Avenue NE. Regis Middle School Principal Rick Blackwell said boy, a sixth-grader, had been at school but had forgotten something in his father’s pickup. He stepped into the street to flag down his dad and was struck by the car, he said. “He stepped out in front of the bus, and there was nothing the driver could have done,” Blackwell said. Officer Dan Lahr said the boy was knocked over, but it appeared the injuries were limited to scrapes and bumps. The student was taken by ambulance to a hospital as a precaution, Blackwell said. The driver of the car was visibly upset. She declined to comment. Police were still investigating to determine if charges would be filed.
