CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The driver of a sport-utility vehicle that wound up in a Cedar Rapids pond Wednesday night was drunk, police said.
Jennifer Foss, 40, of Cedar Rapids, was charged with operating while intoxicated after crashing the SUV into the pond near the corner of Edgewood Road and 42nd Street NE, on the AEGON campus. She was waiting on top of the submerged SUV when rescuers arrived, police said.
A worker at AEGON witnessed the crash around 8:45 p.m. and called police.
“She had pulled into the parking lot there at AEGON, and she was leaving when she became disoriented and drove into the pond,” Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
According to the police report, Foss “thought she was on the exit drive to leave the lot.”
Foss was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment and then transported to the Linn County Jail.
