FAIRFAX, Iowa - Pope Francis elevated two former popes to sainthood early Sunday morning. That means a name change is in order for one church in Linn County.

At 3 a.m., Blessed John the 23rd in Fairfax became St. John the 23rd as a result of the canonization. Pope Francis also canonized John Paul the 2nd.

Father Dustin Vu says there's now work to be done with a different name.

"There will be a lot of work to be done, of course, with changing signs and all the other things but it's a good change, a change we've been longing for -- looking forward to since the day our parish was founded 14 years ago," Vu said.

Vu hopes the recognition of St. John the 23rd's good works inspires others to follow his example.
