DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is making stops in Bellevue, Dubuque and Guttenburg.
The train will roll into those communities to collect items for local food banks.
The train stops in Bellevue behind Horizon Lanes, right around 7 pm.
Then the crew will stop at Hawthorne Street and Rhomberg Avenue at 8:45 pm in Dubuque. The next stop is Guttenburg at 1:45 on Friday.
Santa Claus will be on board along with Canadian country act, The Claytones.
Inside the Bellevue Community Center, Volunteer Jerry Ernst unlocks the treasured goods he's been collecting. December is the the food pantry's busiest month.
Ernst said, "this month will probably be one of our larger ones. We'll have like 45 households. "
Ernst says he usually buys food items for a fraction of the cost. So money is the number one items this food bank needs.
Ernst said, "I can make a dollar go further buying it from the food bank, but we are happy to get it either way I'll tell you. "
But, among the mountain of cereal, canned goods and sweet treats personal items are scarce.
"we need paper towels, toilet paper and we need Kleenex," said Ernst.
Seeming simple items that mean so much when times are tough.
