CHAIRity Event Helps Homeless Families

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A group of Kirkwood Community College interior design students raised money for families in need Saturday with a CHAIRity project.

The students converted old office chairs into art projects, which they auctioned off Saturday in NewBo City Market. The group raised $1,730 for the Four Oaks housing project, PUSH, which helps homeless families or families near that point.

About 30 chairs, each one a little different, were up for sale.

"We've got a golf club chair. Literally a golf club chair. Several other things too," said Jillissa Moorman, Interior Design Coordinator at Kirkwood.

She came up up with the idea to have her students refurbish old chairs into art and gave them full creative license.
