MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Burlington woman has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to reduced theft and forgery charges.
The Muscatine Journal reports that 21-year-old Larry'sha Lawrence was sentenced Friday to 10 years for one count of first-degree theft and five years for each of three counts of forgery.
The three forgery sentences will be served at the same time, but after her 10 years for theft.
Police say Lawrence was involved in a scheme to pass fake payroll checks to Muscatine-area businesses. Authorities say Lawrence cashed about $40,000 in payroll checks from Team Staffing Inc. in Muscatine over two months. She was not employed by the company.
Original charges of ongoing criminal conduct, money laundering and two other counts of forgery were dropped in exchange for her plea.
