Burlington Fire Department Receives Federal Funds

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Burlington's fire department has received nearly $500,000 in federal funding.

The fire department in southeast Iowa received the money from the Department of Homeland Security. It will be used for recruitment purposes.

The federal agency's SAFER program, short for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, provides support for fire departments and others to hire firefighters and volunteer firefighters.
