CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - In the last two weeks, burglars have broken into several Waterloo and Cedar Falls churches and stolen money, police said.
Cedar Falls Police said the three burglarized churches include First United Methodist Church at 723 Washington St., St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 705 Main St., and College Hill Lutheran Church at 2322 Olive St.
Waterloo Police said affected churches include Blessed Sacrament Church at 650 Stephan Ave., Zion American Lutheran Church at 810 Kimball Ave., Sacred Heart Church at 623 W. 4th St., and Trinity American Lutheran Church at 605 W. 4th St.
Cedar Falls police were alerted to the first burglary on Sunday and two more on Monday. According to both agencies, the unidentified burglars usually took money.
However, Cedar Falls police said burglars only took $20 from St. Patrick’s and stole nothing from the First United Methodist Church.
Police advised churches in the area to take extra precautions such as keeping doors locked when they’re not monitored, keeping areas well lit, and making sure everyone has left the building before locking up. They also advised churches to not keep a large sum of money in the building.
