Branstad Exploring New Deals On Trip To Japan

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad says his travel with a delegation of agriculture and economic development officials to Japan is important to continuing good trade relationships with government officials and business executives.

Speaking to reporters on a conference call Monday from the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association annual meeting in Tokyo, Branstad says the organization's meeting next year will be held in Des Moines. That will introduce the city and state of Iowa to hundreds of Japanese business officials.

Branstad says the state already has a lead on a Japanese company looking for new investment in the United States and the Iowa delegation has met with the company's CEO at the meeting.

He says the Iowa delegation also is strengthening ties with Japanese companies already doing business in Iowa including tire manufacturer Bridgestone Corp.
