Boot Camp Helps Prepare New DadsBy Ashley Hinson, Anchor/Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — For anyone about to become a new parent, the questions swirl. Will I be a good parent? What will the baby need? While new moms may read just about every book out there, and get advice from A to Z, there’s not a whole lot designed to help new dads learn the ropes. Until now.
Daddy Boot Camp. A place where Veteran Dads get to connect with the soon to be rookies. They talk all about issues that will affect new dads, from the baby blues and postpartum depression, to child care and going back to work and even more serious topics like shaken baby syndrome and SIDS. And it’s all in a setting where anything is game. The veteran dads bring the babies with them, so rookies get a chance to experience being around a little one. Veteran dads say what you learn in the class is good but everyone has to figure out what works for them. Everyone in the class said they felt a little less anxious about their impending arrivals having been able to chat with other in a “guys only” setting.
