Boiler Shutdown Causes Black Smoke to Rise from Power Plant
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A boiler at the Prairie Creek Power Plant in Cedar Rapids went off-line suddenly Wednesday evening, causing black smoke to billow out of its smoke stack.
Alliant Energy spokesperson Scott Drzycimski says one of the plants four boilers shut down unexpectedly causing the heavy black smoke. Drzycimski says that the burnt coal smoke still goes through the same filtering system as normal, there is just more of it. He also says the elevation of the stack will keep the smoke high enough not to bother people with asthma. After an inspection, the boiler returned online with normal emissions. More Good Stuff |
