Big Ideas at Startup Weekend in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - For anyone with a big idea -- it's the execution that really matters. Now add a layer of time -- 54 hours -- to get it all done.
More than 100 hopefuls showed up Saturday for Start Up Weekend in Cedar Rapids.
Here's how the 3-day event works:
A competition where people bring an idea for a start-up business with them to the Metro Alliance building Friday evening.
Then the idea becomes a collaboration. Participants came together to form groups around 9 promising ideas they'll develop and pitch to the judges Sunday.
"There's a ton of energy happening here. I think that a lot of really cool businesses are going to come out of it," said David Tominsky, who organized the event.
The winner earns a 3-month membership to Vault Coworking & Collaboration Space to further develop their start-up idea.
But organizers say the real value comes in the experience gained and the connections made.
