Bicyclist Sustains Head Injuries Following Collision with Vehicle

CEDAR RAPIDS - A woman was riding her bicycle south down C Street SW, at around 6:30 p.m., when she and an oncoming vehicle collided.

The woman sustained serious head trauma in the accident and was taken away by ambulance for care at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics., said Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Daniel Jabens. She was wearing a helmet.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle was apparently attempting make a left hand turn onto Wilson Avenue Drive SW. The driver of the vehicle wasn’t injured.

Following the accident the intersection was blocked off by yellow tape. Traffic was shut down, and emergency crews photographed and documented the collision.

Names of the cyclist and driver were being withheld pending notification of family.
