CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Scam artists are now savvier than ever, pulling out all the stops. The Better Business Bureau is out with its top 10 list for 2012. On that list, a Facebook message with a link that leads to identity theft and the promise of paid utility bills that wind up costing you thousands.
The Better Business Bureau says no matter what the scam the red flags are always the same, here’s what you should watch out for:
If they ask for your credit card number, bank account information
or prepayment for something. If any of these flags go up The Better Business Bureau advises doing your research on the company before telling them anything about yourself.

“If someone’s calling you it’s like a knock on your front door, they’re coming into your personal space and trying to cheat you. I would not open my door to a stranger and give them private information why would I give it to them on the telephone,” said Barbara Green, Director of Cedar Rapids BBB.

Any legitimate company should be more than happy to let you research them and call back. You can call the Better Businesses Bureau give them the companies information, they will be happy to look into it at no cost to you.
