Benton County Teen Arrested for School Threats

VINTON, Iowa - A Benton County teen faces charges in connection with threats at Benton Community High School in Van Horne.

On Tuesday the district sent out an email to parents and students about a handwritten note found in a boy's bathroom. The district said the note threatened a shooting and explosion for Thursday, April 17th.

Benton County Sheriff Randall Forsyth says a 17-year-old from the Atkins area faces misdemeanor charges as a result of those threats.

Sheriff Forsyth says the suspect faces two counts of first degree harassment, which are aggravated misdemeanors.

The juvenile has been referred to Benton County Juvenile Court.
