IOWA CITY, Iowa - A beat-up 1988 Toyota Camry parked along the 100th block of Lucas Street in Iowa City will remain parked there until Thursday, according to Iowa City Police.
Neighbors said a group of party goers beat-up the vehicle, painted a racial slur on its side, and jammed three bicycles through the cars windows during a weekend party.
“In this incident we do have a complain on the vehicle, and it’s an eye soar,” said Sergeant Denise Brotherton.
Brotherton said there have been no complaints about what has been written on the car, only one about its appearance. She said like any parked car the owner has 72 hours to move it or the police will do it for them.
“They’re then notified that they need to come pick it up, if they don’t, it will be put up for police auction,” Brotherton said.
Neighbors said they want to see it moved as soon as possible. The city plans to treat it like any other car. A call to the owner listed on the cars “for sale” sign was not returned Tuesday.
