Police: Babysitter Refuses to Release Toddler to Drunk Mother and Aunt
IOWA CITY, Iowa - A babysitter refused to release a 3-year-old girl to the girl's mother and aunt when they arrived drunk at the sitter's home early Saturday.
Police say the two women are facing child endangerment charges after allegedly fighting with the babysitter to take the little girl home.
Investigators say Heather Parizek, 33, and her sister Kendra Martin, 32, had been drinking Lone Tree on Saturday. They drove to Iowa City to pick up Parizek's daughter from a sitter's home in the 2400 block of Whispering Meadow Drive.
Iowa City Police told KCRG.com a verbal and physical altercation ensued when the babysitter refused to allow the women to take the child. The sitter then called police.
Upon arrival officers found Parizek and Martin with the child a couple of blocks from the home near the intersection of Whispering Prairie Avenue and Aster Avenue.
According to police, the child was wearing pajamas and repeatedly said she was cold. Parizek agreed to sit in a police car with her daughter and, while getting in, bumped her daughter's head on the car.
The child was released later released to her father.
Parizek is charged with public intoxication and child endangerment. Martin is charged with operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.
