LINN COUNTY, Iowa - Tuesday night, members of the Iowa Department of Correctional Services thought they had spotted a man who had walked away from one of their work release homes at a convenience store.

The officers followed a vehicle carrying the man and a few others away from the store. Linn County deputies were called to help and there was a possible sighting around 8:00pm near Cedar Woods Road. The car was later stopped near the intersection of Highways 13 and 30, but the man wasn't inside. Marion and Mt. Vernon police officers also helped look for him. Officers used a search dog to comb a nearby cornfield.

The Department of Correction Services says it is possible the person got out of the car as their officers were not able to keep the vehicle in sight all the time. Director Gary Hinzman says the person they were looking for lived in a work release home and was not a threat to the public.
