Authorities Link North Liberty Bar Burglary to Ex-Employee

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in eastern Iowa have linked a bar burglary earlier this year to a man who used to work there.

North Liberty police say they arrested 32-year-old Matthew J. McDonald, of Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday following an investigation into the March break-in.

Police say McDonald, who had been recently fired from his job at the bar, lied about his whereabouts on the day of the break-in. His cell phone records also placed him between his home and the bar shortly after the business' burglary alarm was triggered.

More than $1,000 was taken from the bar, and a police complaint says there were signs of forced entry.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says McDonald has charged with third-degree burglary. Court records do not list an attorney.
