Authorities: Elderly Man Killed in Iowa House Fire
URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say firefighters in central Iowa have found an 88-year-old man dead while fighting a house fire in Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines.
The Des Moines Register reports that crews were called to the fire around 3:30 a.m. Saturday by a neighbor, who saw flames coming from the house.
Urbandale Fire Chief Jerry Holt says flames that started in basement where reaching above the roof when crews arrived.
Firefighters soon found the man, who Holt said had died as a result of the fire. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.
The man's name has not yet been released.
Johnston, Clive, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights firefighters also responded.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
