Authorities Cite 5 Oelwein Teens in Car-Surfing Crash
OELWEIN, Iowa - Authorities have issued citations in a September car-surfing accident that injured three youths.
Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said the teens were riding on the hood of a Ford Escort about 12:34 a.m. Sept. 19 when the driver lost control. The car went into ditch and rolled, injuring people on top.
Deputies said they cited the 14-year-old driver with failure to maintain control, no seat belt and no driver’s license. She was placed in a juvenile holding facility for further processing.
Also cited were two 15-year-old passengers, a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old.
The crash happened at on 50th St east of R Avenue,and all five were transported to an area hospital.
