Authorities Cancel Amber Alert After Finding Boy SafeKCCI.com
DES MOINES, Iowa — A 3-year-old boy was found safe Thursday morning after an Amber Alert was issued overnight in Des Moines.
Police said Nicholas Jimmerson was found unharmed just after 5 a.m. at a home in the 1600 block of 6th Avenue. A Des Moines police report shows two women abducted the boy from a McDonald's restaurant at SW 9th Street and Army Post Road on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A meeting had been setup at the restaurant for Melanie Stout to see Nicholas before going to a hospital, the report shows. Stout, 22, is Nicholas' biological mother who does not have custody of him. Stout was accompanied by Amber Johnson, 25, the police report shows. Stout had escaped from the women's correctional facility on Sunday. Department of Human Services officials contacted police about the case. A police report shows the abduction was reported at 10:48 p.m. The Amber Alert that was issued at 3:15 a.m. Broadlawns Medical Center notified police of a patient seeking treatment in the ER fitting the description of Johnson. Officers did locate Johnson at the hospital. Police said she provided information that lead officers to locating Jimmerson. Nicholas Jimmerson was released to the custody of DHS.
