WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Two Iowa men who claimed they were innocent stabbing victims have been arrested after investigators learned they were attacked by a homeowner whose house they burglarized.
Waterloo police said three men showed up at Covenant Medical Center with stab wounds early Tuesday claiming they were robbed and stabbed.
Capt. Tim Pillack said officers soon learned the men had broken into a Waterloo home, and the homeowner stabbed the intruders with a knife while they assaulted him with a baseball bat. Pillack said the homeowner suffered welts to his back and side but is okay.
Two of those stabbed, a 37-year-old and a 17-year-old, have been charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree robbery. A 17-year-old who allegedly drove the getaway car faces the same charges. The third stabbing victim remains hospitalized.
