IOWA CITY, Iowa - Aspen Leaf and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory have opened the chains' second combination store in Iowa City.
The new business features five self-serve frozen yogurt machines and a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory counter selling caramel apples and chocolate confections made while the customer watches.
“Our concept is based on giving people a good variety of quality frozen yogurt flavors and yummy toppings to choose from, plus what sets us apart from other yogurt shops in the area is we offer unique toppings and popular handmade treats by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory,” owner Saf Ibrik said.
The frozen yogurt category has exploded in recent years in the Iowa City area, with the arrival of Yotopia, Topperc and Ghurtie's Gourmet Frozen Yogurt, among others.
Aspen Leaf rotates in new flavors during the week for variety, and sells non-fat, low-fat, no-sugar-added, custard and tart options.
Ibrik said the self-serve concept allows customers to mix as many yogurt flavors and toppings as they want.
Aspen Leaf is owned by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. The Iowa City store, in the former Technigraphics site, is the second Aspen Leaf location to open in Iowa.
