As Construction on New Public Works Facility Continues, Some Plows Might Be Stored Outdoors
By Brady Smith, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Dozens of snow plows owned by the City of Cedar Rapids will be left outside this winter, as the main vehicle storage facility for the public works department is scheduled for demolition this fall. City officials say that will present challenges for plow operators, as the machines will need to be started up earlier to warm up their engines and hydraulics before use.
Craig Hanson, maintenance manager for public works, said the plows being left outside will only be needed in the event of a large snow event. The other plows will be stored at various locations throughout the city.
Hanson said the new vehicle storage facility is scheduled to be finished and ready for use by fall next year.
