Arraignment Cancelled for Suspect in Evelyn Miller Death
CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — An arraignment hearing set for the man charged with killing a 5-year-old northern Iowa girl in 2005 has been cancelled for a second time.
A court official in Floyd County said a hearing scheduled for Monday for Casey Frederiksen wasn't held. The official offered no immediate explanation.
Frederiksen is charged with first-degree murder and sexual abuse in the death of Evelyn Miller of Floyd. He was serving time in federal prison on child pornography charges when he was charged in the 7-year-old homicide case in September. Frederiksen was the live-in boyfriend of Miller's mother.
Frederiksen was to be arraigned earlier this month, but it was delayed until Monday after a judge ordered he be represented by a public defender from Waterloo, not Mason City, because of a conflict of interest.
