Ames City Council Approves Ban on Home Gun Sales
AMES, Iowa (AP) — The Ames City Council has unanimously approved a ban on home sales of guns.
The Ames Tribune reports the council voted Tuesday night to add firearm sales to the list of prohibited home occupations. The council must vote on the proposals twice more before it becomes law. The matter came up after questions were raised about the granting of an earlier gun sales permit. That earlier request came in April, when the Ames Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a gun sales permit after deciding such sales weren't prohibited under a city ordinance. That prompted two neighbors of the gun sale permit holder to request the city ban such sales from homes. The city now bans a variety of home occupations, including animal hospitals, restaurants and kennels. |
