Alliant: Wind, Weather Responsible for Power Outages

By Max Walker

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Alliant Energy says wind gusts are causing power outages reported in several eastern Iowa counties. Spokesperson Justin Foss said crews were out trying to restore service, but some customers might not have their power back until the daylight hours.

Late Thursday night, Alliant reported on its Facebook page that crews in rural parts of northern Iowa and southern Minnesota had to pull off of the road because of impassible conditions. Foss said there weren't those kind of access issues in east-central Iowa, but that wind-related power outages can't be fixed until the winds die down.

As of 1:15 Friday morning, Alliant's website reported the following outages in eastern Iowa counties:

Linn: 1,292
Floyd: 807
Washington: 775
Howard: 368
Hardin: 340
Grundy: 273
Wapello: 207
Winneshiek: 163
Davis: 135
Louisa: 43
Tama: 18
Poweshiek: 13

In the Waterloo area, MidAmerican Energy listed 101 customers without power.
