All Things Bacon Celebrated in Waterloo
WATERLOO, Iowa - We've seen the protein-packed power of the Bacon Fest each winter in Des Moines. Now, the prized pork is a little closer as the Cedar Valley Bacon Fest opened for the first time Saturday.
The McElroy Auditorium was packed as all things bacon were celebrated with food, drinks, and live music.
Bacon lovers had the chance to eat all sorts of bacon dishes, even bacon flavored popcorn and cupcakes.
Organizers say they saw how successful the event was in other cities, and wanted to bring something similar here.
"We're always looking for different things we can do in the community, fun activities, things like that. There's been nothing here, obviously there's some very large and successful BaconFest celebrations in other areas , and we just thought it'd be a really fun thing to bring to the Cedar Valley." said Mary Williams, co-chair of the event.
Radio station 93.5 The Mix hosted the event and says it was so successful, they plan to make it a yearly tradition.
