Algona Woman Gets Probation in Prescription Case

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A 34-year-old Algona woman has been given a suspended sentence and probation in a prescription drugs case.

The Mason City Globe Gazette says Melissa Ricke had been convicted in Cerro Gordo County of prohibited acts and of illegal possession of a painkiller. She was acquitted of prescription fraud and another count of possession of a controlled substance.

She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, for the conviction on prohibited acts. She got three years of probation and a $1,000 fine as well. For the possession conviction, she was given two days in jail and fined $315.

The charges were filed in October 2012 after an investigation by Mason City police.
