Ainsworth Man Conviction Upheld for 2008 Death

AINSWORTH, Iowa - An Ainsworth man is set to begin serving a 17 year prison term for his involvement in the 2008 death of a 78-year-old woman.

Washington County authorities Friday took Rodney Bean, 52, to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale.

Prosecutors say Bean and his wife were caring for Joyce Gentzler when she died in February 2008. An autopsy revealed she died of malnutrition, dehydration and blunt force trauma.

In September 2011, a jury convicted Bean of seven counts -- including involuntary manslaughter. The Iowa Court of Appeals upheld his conviction September 5th. And the Iowa Supreme Court denied to review his case Monday.

A Washington County jury convicted Lori Jo Bean of involuntary manslaughter in December 2010. She's serving five years probation.
