IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The attorney for an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation supervisor who has been on leave since May 1 says he believes his client will be vindicated and allowed to return to work.

Attorney Tom Duff says Special Agent in Charge Larry Hedlund has been "an outstanding employee" for the Department of Public Safety for 25 years.

Duff says Hedlund was placed on paid administrative leave shortly after he filed internal complaints about his superiors, and another complaint involving a government official.

Hedlund is in charge of the division's geographic zone that includes much of northern and northeastern Iowa. Duff says any investigation "is going to clear his name."

Department spokesman Lt. Rob Hansen has declined to explain the reason for Hedlund's leave, calling it a confidential personnel matter.
