SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Transportation says in court documents that Sioux City's claims about new state regulations on traffic cameras are "outlandish" and not fit for court review.

The agency, which says the claims amount to speculation, filed a motion Thursday to dismiss a petition by the city challenging the regulations. No hearings have been scheduled.

The Sioux City Journal reports ( ) the regulations went into effect Feb. 17. It requires that cities and other municipalities submit crash data to justify the use of cameras along state roads.

The city filed its petition March 7. It calls the rules difficult to comply with. Department officials say Sioux City cannot show it has been adversely affected by the change.
