About 70 Gather in Des Moines for Peace Rally

By KCRG Intern

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Organizers of an anti-violence rally held Saturday at the State Capitol in Des Moines say they hope to make the rally an annual event.

The Des Moines Register reports that about 70 people participated in the "1,000 Families for Peace" rally in Des Moines on Saturday.

The rally held in response to shooting deaths this year in Polk County, in addition to incidents of gunfire that authorities say sometimes involve teens. Des Moines police say gunshots have been hitting property or people twice as often in 2013 as in 2012.
