URBANDALE - Urbandale police said Friday that they seized thousands of dollars in fireworks on Thursday.

Police said officers responded to a noise complaint of fireworks in the 6300 block of Meredith Drive. Officers ticketed Mark Graham of Urbandale for discharging of fireworks, according to Urbandale's new zero-tolerance policy for the handling of illegal fireworks complaints.

They said officers located and seized thousands of dollars in fireworks from Graham.

Police said the fireworks are large and are extremely dangerous. Urbandale Fire Chief Jerry Holt said,"This potentially impacts the people that live anywhere near that neighbor. There's enough of this that I could be an innocent bystander and my neighbor has this, and is planning to shoot it off. It's going to impact my property and potentially the health and safety of the people that live in my house."

Police said they were alerted to the stash of fireworks when a neighbor called police reporting a loud fireworks explosion Thursday night. When Urbandale police arrived at the house on Meredith Drive, they found the homeowner lowering his garage door, but police saw just enough inside to see boxes with obvious fireworks markings on them.
