DES MOINES (AP) — Matt Schultz has won the Republican primary for Iowa's Secretary of State and will run against incumbent Democrat Michael Mauro in the November general election.

Schultz of Council Bluffs beat George Eichhorn of Stratford and Chris Sanger of Stuart.

The secretary of state race has drawn considerable interest, in part because people who hold that office have a strong history of running for governor. Democrat Chet Culver had the job for eight years before becoming governor.
