CHARLES CITY (AP) - Authorities in Floyd County say there have been several confirmed sightings of a black bear believed to be the same one spotted in Worth and Mitchell counties over Memorial Day weekend.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Department says it was contacted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources regarding two sightings north of Charles City.

The first sighting was Monday night north of Floyd.

The second sighting was on Tuesday.

It is believed to be the same black bear seen in other North Iowa and southern Minnesota counties recently.

The DNR advises that citizens should leave the bear alone and to avoid contact.

So far the bear has avoided human contact and has only damaged a few bird feeders.
