Jaws of Life Used in Accident, Two Injured

JACKSON COUNTY - Two me are injured following a one vehicle crash in Jackson County.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Cale Hughes, 24, of Shellsburg, was traveling northbound on 50th Ave., one mile North of Baldwin, when he lost control of the vehicle. The 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the center line and ran off the road, hitting a bridge guard rail.

Hughes was trapped inside the vehicle and rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate him. Hughes was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A passenger, Steven Frink, 25, of Cedar Rapids, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to the Jackson County Regional Health Center by ambulance and was then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
