Worker Says He Was Minor When Hired at MeatpackerRelated Content
WATERLOO (AP) - A former underage worker has testified that he was injured while working at the former Agriprocessors kosher slaughterhouse in Postville.
Testifying Monday in the trial of former plant manager Sholom Rubashkin, Gerardo Solovi Perez told jurors he was injured when his right hand became caught in a conveyor belt. After workers bandaged his finger and put a glove on the hand, he says supervisors told him to resume work. Perez says he was born in February 1991, making him 17 when agents raided Agriprocessors and arrested 389 people on immigration charges. Rubashkin faces 83 state counts of child labor violations connected with the meatpacking plant. He's awaiting sentencing on separate federal financial fraud convictions. More Good Stuff |
